NUDIST TERMINOLOGY |
Some people make distinctions between Naturists and Nudists. To some people the differences (whatever they may be) are quite important, but many people use the terms interchangably today. In the USA, the term Nudist is normally associated with a person or club that is affiliated with the American Association for Nude Recreation. While the term Naturist is normally associated with a person or club that is affiliated with The Naturist Society.
My wife and I enjoy social nudity. It does not matter to us whether the nude event is at a public Clothing Optional (CO) beach, a natural park or at a private landed club that is affiliated with one of the national organizations. We normally use the term Naturist eventhough we belong to both the AANR and TNS (since August 1995).
You are visiting Mooncrow's Naturist Page. Please understand that this is NOT intended as an affront to Nudists. At the request of some of the visitors to my web pages, I have started including the national affiliation of the landed and non-landed clubs, if I know it! If you see an entry here that uses the term Naturist or Nudist in a context that you consider to be inappropriate, please email me with your comments. Constructive criticism is always welcomed.
A LANDED club is one that owns land and provides nudist facilities for club members and usually for members of AANR and TNS. These may be non-profit clubs or commercial operations. Some landed clubs are "clothing optional" and other are "clothing free" facilities.
A NON-LANDED club is a group of naturists/nudists who have common interests and enjoy each other's company attending nude events at Landed clubs and public CO sites. Such clubs are usually affiliated with the AANR or with TNS, but they do not own any landed facilities themselves. However, many of these clubs have a "land fund" to accumulate money for the purpose of eventually buying their own land.
A Clothing OPTIONAL (CO) club or site is one that permits full body nudity, but does not generally prohibit clothing. However, most CO clubs still prohibit use of clothing in the pool, hot tub and sauna.
A Clothing FREE club or site is one that mandates at least partial nudity as long as the weather permits it. Most, if not all, clothing free clubs prohibit the use of clothing in the pool, hot tub and sauna.
We are a label oriented society. We are commonly referred to as nudists or naturists because we like doing things in the nude. On the flip side of the coin, we refer to folks who insist on wearing clothing all the time as "textiles" and the world they live in is the "textile world".
