WEIR CREEK HOT SPRINGS, IDAHO

[Weir Creek]
Copyright by The Hot Springs Gazette

Weir Creek Hot Springs is a natural hot spring located in the remote forests of Idaho about 10 miles west of Jerry Johnson Hot Springs.  This stone pool is fed by 103 degree water that creates the perfect soak.  Rustic campsites are scattered along the shores of the creek and amongst the cedar & pine forest.   This storybook setting overlooks the canyon and is only one of serveral good soak sites in this part of Idaho.

DIRECTIONS: From Missoula, Montana, take US 12 across the border into Idaho and proceed about 30 miles to mile marker 141.

We travelled to Hwy 12 to visit Jerry Johnson's and Weir Creek. The
Ranger was glad to point us to E. Weir creek  It was very crowded due to
the bridge closure at JJ HS. It was a wonderful soak, overlooking the
river. The trail is rough in the winter and early spring due to snow; but
in the summer I have heard it is nicer/  As it was, the hike was a wee
bit treacherous; but no more than Wind River in WA. Here are my upper
and lower pix (your pic is of the lower pool)

You ought to consider it your civic duty to keep quiet about some things. Special places like this (i.e. Weir Creek) are what they are because of the people who take care of them. Now we have strangers from all over the country, and beyond, coming in because they find your directions on the web (of all places) and soon spots like this will all be overrun even more so than they already are.

If you have any concern at all for the welfare of these special places, put a sock in it, please!

Disappointed,
Jeff

One nice and hot pool located at the end of a very rough 1/2 mile hike. Approximately 10 miles west of Jerry Johnson Hot Springs (mile marker 141.) There are two trails leading to the pool, but one requires scrambling along a rock wall, and may be under water early in the year. The other trail goes over the rock wall. Note for first time users, GO IN AT DAYTIME! Since Jerry Johnson Hot Springs became a day use only area, this one has taken up all the slack at night. As a result, it has become very popular, i.e. crowded. A drain pipe leading from the pool provides a nice shower. Candles at night provide a perfect atmosphere, especially if you are alone with your better half.
