My son took me on a canoe trip down this beautiful river in Florida.

It was awesome. ~ Mother nature at her finest. ~ At least no aligators were seen or I might have had another opinion.. :-/

It was about seven miles that normally takes 2-1/2 hours to complete but we took our time and spent about 5 hours on the water. ~ It was 80 degrees and sunny. ~ All the overhanging trees gave us just enough broken shade. ~ The river is spring fed with crystal clear water. ~ It was anywhere from 3 inches deep to what seemed be 15-20 feet in spots, where the river turns and the current has dug out the sand bottom. ~ The current moves along at a pretty good pace. ~ Not *too* fast, but that spring puts out a *major* amount of water. ~ So much so you don’t really need to paddle. ~ You just need to aim the boat.

Here’s a few shots we took of the trip. ~ Get larger view by clicking the name link below each picture.

Going with the flow.

I rented a sit-on-top kayak and of course had to get nude for the trip. ~  A tee shirt laying between my knees was used when we met anyone along the way. ~ This happened a few times but 90 percent of the time we didn’t see a soul. ~  What helped I guess is that we had waited until the early morning rush was over at the rental place before starting our trip. ~ Can you think of a nicer way to spend a day?

Sitting over a deep spot.

One of about 7 Manatees we saw.

A group of five was the first to go by. ~ I thought they were porposes. ~ They were heading up stream and passed quickly but then they stopped. ~ So I turned around and gave chase. ~ It seemed they waited for me to catch up. ~ I got my camera ready and drifted right over a couple of them. ~ I could reach down and touch them. ~ I thought they might give my boat a little lift off the water as they went under but that didn’t happen.  ~ When I had my pictures, they started swimming away again. :-)

Going under Kayak.

Leaving to check out the other guys.

The water was cool and refreshing... The bottom was mostly sand and moss and I had a great swim.  ~ I did startled a mermaid while poking around down there underwater. ~ My son got this shot. ~  Ha! ~ I wish!

The other wild life was very tame too. ~ You could get very close. ~ It was all so quiet and peaceful and I was disappointed that I didn’t bring my video camera. ~ That would have been some great footage with the ever changing scenery and watching things as we drifted by...
