We went to the winter TNS festival in Florida in February 2001.

The winter version of the one held at Empire Haven here in NY in the summer.

For my first *real* visit to Florida, other than to fly into Miami for cruises, this was the nicest place to go to that I can imagine. ~ The trip was totally off the cuff... ~ I was emailing Morley about something and he just dropped it on me... ~ “Why don’t you come down for the festival?” ~  It took me about 10 seconds for me to digest that and to figure out, “Yeah, I can do that..”

The rental pulled a switch on me when I went to pick up the vehicle. ~ It was to be a high mileage Dodge something but instead they gave me an SUV. ~ I thought  it might be a better deal for camping, etc. so I took it. ~ Never rent an SUV for any long trips.. ~ It was a very bad move on my part... ~ Bad mileage, rough ride, etc.

My nephew lives exactly half way to West Palm so I had a place to lay over on the two day drive, plus getting a chance to see them. ~ He’s a favorite of mine.. ~ Took off early the next morning and had a great trip and visit. ~ Almost had him convinced to come with me and see what it was all about, but his construction business suddently had a burst of business. ~  I think he was telling the truth. <g>

I pulled into the Sunsport drive about 11:30 p.m. ~ Probably the most difficult time I had during the entire trip was in just finding the place. ~ It is buried, miles into a maze of nameless dirt roads. ~ The first street off the highway is called ‘D street’... I think that’s D for *dirt*!!! ~ Then when you finally get to the driveway, they pull a trick on you and make you look the other way so you never even see their signs and the drive.. ~ I understand they have since made a much better and detailed map that I recommend you obtain from them first if it’s your first visit.

After trying to wake someone up to open the automatic gate, I finally got in. ~ Then I found Clyde. ~ Great guy. ~ Helpful and happy to be so. ~ He set me up with a camp site and gave me information for the next day. ~ The camp site was a very nice one, it turned out, being right in the area of the fire circle...

That night at the fire ring was one the nicest evenings I’ve spent with people in a long time. ~ I’ve never experienced anything quite like it before. ~ Yes, camp fires, story telling and such, all the time.., but not like this. ~ There were the drums. ~ Beautiful hand patted african drums. ~ The soft & slow repetitious beats were very hypnotic. ~ Then there were the songs that were sung. ~ Everyone went into their menories to bring new ones to light and for the rest to learn and sing. ~  All of them conveying peaceful thoughts and ideas. ~ There was a ‘pagan’ couple at the ring and we became good friends. ~ I found I had a completely wrong idea of what that word was all about. ~ They were a great couple, just wanting to enjoy life and not wanting to bother other people while doing so.

These items are somewhat mixed in their order of occurance but I’d like to tell you now about my first pudding toss; which occurred at Sunsport.. ~ It is something that will remain in my memory for the rest of my life. :-) ~ A vindication for what had previously just been a concept to me. ~ That is, non sexual male/female nude body contact. ~ I had tended to believe it for many years but had a problem believing that ‘others’ would. ~ That’s probably a hard nut to crack in most peoples heads, I think, and no less so in my own. ~  So I had met Julia, a staunch, top free advocate even though rather new to total nudity. ~ She was going to be in the toss too. ~ I mentioned to her that I had no idea what I was going to do myself, especially with my hands. <g> ~  She told me ‘when in Rome, do unto others as you would have them do unto you.’  ~ Well I just explained that she had so much more to ‘do unto’... ~ I just wasn’t convinced.  Ha! ~ So we get into the toss... ~ I’m trying my best to be ‘cautious’ but then Julia comes up to me and rubs her chocolate filled hands down my chest... ~ So what’s a man to do, I ask you? ~ It was a turning point in my life and why I’m such a staunch supporter of nudism now. ~ It opened my eyes and as I’ve been calling it all along, I became ‘enlightened’. ~ Get over the idea that ‘sex’ is automatically related to nudity, and people will move on to greater and better things. :-)

They brought in their fire truck to use when it was all over... ~ The fire-hose being sprayed on the group was the best shower I’ve had in my life. ~ Except for the one in Joplin, MO one night, after driving 15 hours in 80 degree temperatures with no A/C... <g>. ~ This hose was putting out major water with some considerable pressurer.   :-) ~ On the cold side too, but I thought it was way more than bearable.. ~ It was an ‘extreme’ shower. ~ Unbelievably invigorating and refreshing.. ~ I couldn’t get enough.., and the pudding that was on me didn’t stand a chance.

On the spur of the moment, the kids were put on the firetruck and it went off on a half hour excursion through the camp and into the ‘outback’. ~ Several adults (ha!) also climed onto the rear and tagged along. ~ Julia, myself, and a couple of others.  I held the camera way back and took this shot forward as we were riding along. ~ The florida flora and fauna was whipping past us on both sides as we traversed the wilds of the camp and  I expected to see a rhino or something, jump out at us any minute. ~ It was like being one of the kids again. ~ A great, nice, feeling and experience. ~ All the pressures of life; the ulcers, the stress and so on, just melted away.

There were many other events for the kids and adults. ~ Photography, Amateur Radio, Dances, and a very well done ‘Talent Act put on by the members. ~ It went on for hours. ~ The kids made a 20 ft. bannana split in a rain gutter supported across picnic tables... ~ They had a blast making it, and then eating it. ~ There was a maze chalked on the ground which I didn’t walk but several people said it was very relaxing to do so. ~ There were seminars on alternative living and mental ‘routines’. ~  One for stress relief, given by a woman named Joyce Shing, certainly seemed to work for me. ~ I had to stop, a little surprized, to maybe(?) keep from putting myself under. ~ I thought I felt myself relaxing a little too much.  :-) ~ That was strange too, as I don’t normally believe in or get into that kind of thing. ~ But going to  Sunsport was specifically to get away from a lot of built up pressure of business so I was determined to try anything. ~  I thnk they work. :-/

The people were beautiful. ~ They were very much at ease about pictures being taken. ~ I don’t mean there was just willy nilly shooting going on... ~ Not at all. ~  Pictures were only taken with permission. ~ And, as with all pictures on this site, specific permission is given again for them to be put online. ~ But, as with the group photo at the pool, the newspaper photographer took about 20 of our cameras with him onto the roof. ~ He took the same shot, one camera after another, until we all had a copy of our own. ~ This picture was printed in the West Palm Post in April, with a lot of tiny little black rectangles in the appropriate places. ~ Along with a very large and positive write up, including other pictures, that filled three full pages.

In the opening circle I was fairly white. ~ I called it my Buffalo tan. ~  We had had more than 10 ft of snow, at that point.  ~ But there was heavy sun for all four days at Sunsport, and by the ending circle I was very dark.. ~ More reddish than tan of course, but I didn’t burn. ~  Flaked a little but no peeling. ~ I believe I’m ‘conditioned’ to the sun, and I never use sunscreen nor sun lotion. ~ Yuk!
